Moss
Artist: Tim Becker
Release Date: July 11th, 2019
Beginning with a bass-thumping, banjo-plucking, saxophone-sweetened, multi-harmonic title track, my fourth album Moss is my most ambitious project to date. I taught myself five new instruments in writing these songs, playing more than a dozen total, and I pushed my vocals and production skills to new limits. Moss takes my sound in an optimistic direction: it is upbeat, energetic, and full of positivity and I’m excited to share it with you!
Lyrics
Moss
dreaming out of focus
in a forest like a blur
foggy mornings on a path
winding and obscure
jagged white webs
always hanging east to west
droplets strung up like ghosts
now I’m looking over my shoulder
you got me looking over my shoulder
saying “uh-oh, oh, oh, oh”
saying “uh-oh, oh, oh, oh”
dreaming all directions
can you tell me where to go
turning on an axis
magnetic at the poles
if we ever get lost
we can follow the moss
and find out way out
if we ever get lost
we can follow the moss
and find our way out
now I’m looking over my shoulder
you got me looking over my shoulder
saying “uh-oh, oh, oh, oh”
saying “uh-oh, oh, oh, oh”
Ambition
if you lose your way
head towards the bay
I know you can make it
just pound the pavement
I don’t much care for bricks but I
gotta be on time for this
can’t show my face again if I
keep showing up late again
you better pound it
you better pound it
When you lose your way
head towards the bay
I know you can make it
just pound the pavement
I don’t much care for bricks but I
gotta be on time for this
can’t show my face again if I
keep showing up late again
I’m not somebody
I’m not somebody
I’m not somebody
you gotta worry about
everybody tells me
fake it till you make it, quit
running ‘round naked
like you never got a paycheck
acting in a play
I haven’t seen before
never played the game and now
I fumble like an amateur
never been a sucker
for that drug ambition
never been confused
for a man on a mission
never been a dreamer
thinkin I could make a million
never been a sucker
for that drug ambition
I’m not somebody
I’m not somebody
I’m not somebody
you gotta worry about
never been a sucker
for that drug ambition
Make It Happen
where do we get started
how do we climb the mountain
can’t get up in the morning
can’t see the bigger picture
stare into the ocean
like it has all the answers
feel a little smaller
feel a little urgent
if you want it, make it happen
make it happen
if you want it make it happen
sleep a while
dive into the water
looking on
across a clear horizon
mmhmm
keep pushing on
time will see us through
oh carry me
and I will carry you
if you want it, make it happen
make it happen
if you want it make it happen
make it happen
Flashlight
twenty-something
I was out on the street
when you're broke
they treat you like a disease
if you believe that you are free
try to find some place to be
after dark
cops keep knocking on my windows
anywhere the night goes
hide under a blanket in the backseat
flashlights all around me
before you call and say you want me gone
a word of caution when you send me along
you are not the judge or jury
you’re just the executioner
cops keep knocking on my windows
anywhere the night goes
hide under a blanket in the backseat
flashlights all around me
if you believe that you are free
try to find some place to be
after dark
cops keep knocking on my windows
anywhere the night goes
anywhere the night goes
Saturn
then I wake from a retro-future dream
disenchanted by the loss
of all the things that might have been
missed our chance
but we’re only losing time
so I’ll keep the faith alive
and I wait, and I wait,
and I wait, and I wait
see a place that I never knew was possible
bubble cities in the clouds
from yesterday’s tomorrows
hold out hope
we can make it back somehow
so I’ll stay the course for now
and I wait, and I wait
and I wait, and I wait
and I sail into a web of stars
and I see astro dust and rocket cars
and I skate figure eights on Saturn’s rings
and I dream what other futures might have been
might have been
It’s Alright
like a faraway flash
I see you suffer alone
if I could hold back the fallout
I’d stand in the throes
shield you in the doorway and say
it’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright,
it’s alright
if I could come any closer
I’d cover you whole
if I could hold you together
I’d never let go
feeling helpless all I can say
it’s alright, it’s alright, it’s alright,
it’s alright
Pennsylvania
time has started slipping away
suddenly the leaves are falling
not enough hours in a day
I can hear my number calling
since we started living apart
so many months, all these miles
what little we had has been lost
if only till we’re reunited
won’t you meet me up in Pennsylvania
you’ll be glad you came
it’ll only be a little bit longer
till we’re together again
climb aboard the train, little riders
never can know where life takes you
somewhere along the way
will be your stop and
everything goes on without you
I’ve been thinking about death
a little bit more than I mean to
bodies at rest stay at rest
and everyone’s gotta go through
so many ways it can go
in only a moment or two
only a wrong time and place
to keep me away from you
won’t you meet me up in Pennsylvania
you’ll be glad to came
it’ll only be a little bit longer
till we’re together again
climb aboard the train,
little riders
never can know where life takes you
somewhere along the way
will be your stop and
everything goes on without you
climb aboard the train, little riders
climb aboard the train
climb aboard the train, little riders
you’ll be glad you came
Witch of the Woods
If you take me from these woods
I’ll come back and haunt them
and haunt them
graceful and quiet
transparent and quick
charming the leaves
into growing back
greener than before
possess the roots
and push them deeper
and deeper in the soil
from now on, from now on
this is what I am
tiptoe to the river where we
used to lie together on stones
and wait there
I wonder what you’re thinking
I wonder all the time
everybody has a secret place
a willow in the woods that can’t be named
from now on, from now on
this is what I am
yeah, this is really happening
Try Again
when I came into the world
they put my name down on the hit list
kicked before I crawled
and grew up swinging and defensive
broke so many bones
that I don’t notice when it happens
got so many stitches
that I might as well be wired
and I’m knocked but I’m still standing
lost but never stranded
fighting just to see a new day
coming in for a crash landing
come up empty-handed
gotta be another way
try again, try again
try again, try again
I don’t know what I did
to deserve to be rejected
and I make all these plans
they don’t go like I expected
and I’m knocked but I’m still standing
lost but never stranded
living just to see a new day
I’m the captain of crash landing
come up empty-handed
gotta be another way
try again, try again
try again, try again
Maryland
wake up to a text from you
three hundred miles apart
reach into the vacancy
where you no longer are
never thought it’d be like this
but things don’t go our way
so much longer left to go
I just want to be with you
I feel it all the time
all the time, all the time,
all the time
driving every other weekend
through this mountain pass
seven hours to Maryland
throw your arms around me at the door
share a mattress on the floor
only for a night or two
but always wanting more
I just want to be with you
I feel it all the time
all the time, all the time,
all the time
